We clear land so that we can build our homes,
roads, parks, farms, industry and for softwoods production. We selectively
fell precious old-growth trees in our strategies for commercial logging,
and we selectively fell those same precious old-growth trees so that we might have safety from
fires and the fear of falling limbs and toppling trees.
And if all that is not enough, we poison the termites that create the
hollows, and we do this because of the threat those same termites impose to our
buildings.

This
seemingly insignificant tree was about to be removed by a local
authority to make way for a car park. Upon investigation it was found to contain 20 active
nesting hollows and was saved from destruction.
The evidence of the presence of this abundant life support system? Note the small
Rainbow Lorikeet just emerging from its home at the fork!
